November 1 2014 marked Nevada’s 150th birthday. It’s not too late to go back in time and delve into some of Nevada’s rich and quirky history if you go to Dr. Lonnie Hammargren’s Open House today Nov 2 before 5PM.
Dr. Lonnie Hammargren and his wife Sandy have been hosting an open house once a year for the last 19 years. According to Hammargren’s website this weekend is the last open house it will be hosting.

In Las Vegas when conversations centered on Dr. Lonnie Hammargren, I’ve heard him called by many names. Adjectives such as “eccentric”, “headline crazy”, “off the wall”, “ham comedian and entertainer” to repeat just a few. On the other hand, Lonnie is also called a first-class surgeon, astute politician, benevolent charity contributor, friend of the arts, show business investor and producer, and formulator and curator of a museum dedicated to the history of Nevada, especially Las Vegas.
Visitors to the open house have been amazed and overwhelmed at the amount of objects available to view. Locals get a glimpse of what is behind the walls of this museum when you pass their home on Sandhill Road.
