The Pahrump Valley Winery is just an hour drive northwest of the Strip. The winery opened in 1990. In 2005 the first zinfandel grapes grown in Nevada were harvested:
The winery has a small estate vineyard planted in the early 1990’s and surprisingly, these vines had never been harvested. Fast forward to 2005 when we successfully harvested the first one and a half tons of Zinfandel grapes. This resulted in our release of Nevada’s first ever commercial red wine, our 2005 Zinfandel.
The winery is open during the holiday season and according to their website they are still offering information tours. I recommend calling ahead to verify their tasting room hours during the remainder of the holiday season. Service dogs are welcome, otherwise guests need to leave their pooches at home.
The winery tour is very informative and there’s a great walk through of their award winning wines. The tastings are free and the team are friendly. If you’re hungry, you can have an excellent meal at their restaurant, Symphony. Trip Advisor gave Symphony Restaurant a #1 restaurant rating in Pahrump, NV. The atmosphere at the restaurant is “upscale casual”.
